Neurosurgery & Neurology

Neurology investigates conditions that involve the nervous system (brain, spinal cord, nerves, and muscles).

Due to the nervous system’s complex anatomy and function, neurology has a wide field of work. It offers help to those afflicted with disorders that include but are not limited to: headache disorders, cerebral palsy, epilepsy, sleep disorders, behavioural/cognitive syndromes, and stroke. These conditions may be co-managed with other specialties. For example, stroke may be treated by a neurologist and an internist.

When surgical intervention is required, the neurologist may refer the patient to a neurosurgeon. Neurosurgery, the corresponding surgical specialty, proffers alternative management.

Neurological conditions are the most common cause of serious disabilities and have a major, but often unrecognised, impact on health and social services. Early diagnosis and prompt treatment is vital to the prevention of worsening of a neurologic case. Click here to chat with a Medical Butler for more information.
